The following is taken from the National Trust website in the U.K. :-
Turn to tap water – refreshingly local It’s safe and tasty and free:
The tap water in the UK is safe and healthy to drink, in fact it’s among the best quality water in the world.
In blind taste tests many people could not tell any difference in taste between bottled water and tap water. (Have you Bottled It? Sustain)
Water is a precious resource: When manufacturing a one-litre plastic bottle, between three and seven litres of water may be used to make and fill it. Not to mention the fuel used to transport bottles of water around on the motorways.
Caring for the environment: The plastic waste often ends up as litter, which can get washed into rivers. Did you know that in the Pacific Ocean there’s an island of floating plastic the size of Europe?Transporting bottled water creates 33,200 tonnes of CO2 in the UK alone, which is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 6,000 homes. More than 50 per cent of the UK’s recycling plastic is sent overseas for recycling. The main destination is China.

Thanks for your comment. I’ve decided I need to become more selfish in my later years. I can still help people but not allow them to the Michael.
Talking of water, I’m off to Buxton on Monday. Will take an empty bottle to fill up from the Buxton spring and have a drink. Will save me some cash too instead of buying bottled water.
It seems like China gets everything from the UK – it used to be the other way around as everything was ‘made in China’ when I was a teenager (I remember once looking at the back of a box of shortbread and it said ‘made in China’ – this was in a shop in Germany too!
Now it looks like China is going to own Liverpool FC. All those headlines I’ve read this week: ‘You’ll never wok alone’.
One I’ve thought up is for the directors when they are discussing the proposal and hoping they make the correct decision as they will have ‘China in their hands’ (look up TPau, an 80s band as that is one of their songs).
@lesley_redd - Yes, “China in my Hands” is a favourite track of mine, and still gets a fair amount of airtime I find.
Put a hankie over your bottle before you drink, in case there’s the odd liver fluke present. That’s what I used to do as a kid before drinking from springs and streams when camping.
Hope you don’t discover, on your visit, a huge complex where chlorinated Buxton water is filled from a tap for elf’n'safety reasons.(That’s my cynical side)
